1) remove oil filter. 2) slide red tab on backside (just push it from one side or the other until it moves a bit) (My connector just cracked off ) 3) Pinch tail end of connector near the wire and slide off. 4) Use 1-1/16 deep socket ($10 at sears) to loosen/remove old sensor.
Buy a new oil filter as well. Pull the filter, remove the sending unit wire, remove sending unit, install sending unit, re-install oil filter, and top off your oil as you will lose a bit that was in the old filter. My 4.7 was burning oil as well and i also changed the PCV valve. No cure. Finally changed all the valve stem seals (hell of a job with engine in place) and the problem was solved. Take care in using thicker oils and additives. It could slow down oil consumption, but it can also lower the pressure/flow at the bearings (more pressure losses in

4.7L - Cannot find oil leak. I've been chasing a bad oil leak in this engine for a month now, it's got me pretty frustrated. I have replaced the valve cover gaskets, oil fill tube gasket, PCV, crank breathers and front main seal. She is very dry on top and front of engine. The passenger side and starter area is very wet.
GSUDave. 5 posts · Joined 2011. #19 · Mar 23, 2011. I have a 2001 4.7 w/ 140K and it was burning a quart every 2000 miles. I tried Castrol High Mileage 10W30 a couple of times and saw no change. The last 2 times I went with Castrol HM 10W40 and added half a can of Seafoam to my oil changes. Gu4rSx1.
